When: Saturday August 5th at 1pm
Where: Theatre Puget Sound (inside the Armory at Seattle Center)
What: My non-narrative play Attention Must Be Paid recently received this year's Seattle One-Act Play (SOAP) commission via the Baker Theatre Workshop, in partnership with both ACT Theatre and Hugo House (!!!!!).
Part of this commission award is receiving a staged reading with some superb local actors (Jeremy Radick, Hannah Abrahamson, and James Ryder) and directed by the wonderful Peter Temes, who is also the artistic director of Baker Theatre Workshop. My reading will be one of three new plays produced at this event; the second play won this year's SOAP commission for the 18 and under category, and the other is a revised version of one of last year's winners.
My play Attention Must Be Paid is about Arthur Miller, his wife and photojournalist Inge Morath, and their son Daniel. Daniel was born with Down Syndrome. Arthur and Inge placed Daniel in an institution as an infant and kept him a secret their entire lives. My play explores both the factors that contributed to and the reverberations of that choice. It's a play rooted in a lot of history, clearly, but also one that is very close to my heart.
How do I attend? The event will be FREE to attend!! There will likely be an online reservation system beforehand, which I'll send along if/when it exists.
